The Color Connection

Most people know what they like when they see it, but unless they are design oriented it is hard for them to put their finger on what is that they liked about the room.

Even if one is design oriented, designing space is a little different because the space  encompasses you, and you cannot see it all at once. Not only that, but even though we have defined a space as a space, it doesn’t really end where we say it does.

There are windows that open up into more space - bringing the room out and the outside in. They need to be taken into consideration, and there are doors leading to other spaces, that are visible from the space we are in. There should be some sort of conversation between the different spaces in order to create something complete.

Boston based designer Abbey K uses color as a conecton between rooms.

If the living room and the dining room open up to each other, use a dominant color in one room as the accent in the next. For example: blue makes up a large percentage in the living room so for the dining room next door, try a small percentage of the same blue in the drapes. You will also notice that we swapped places with coral. Coral pillows and chair in the living room repeat in coral walls in the dining room.
