I have been living in Las Vegas for the last two weeks consulting on a project, and have to vent about this. My upscale hotel room is not livable at all! There is nothing homelike about it. Not enough storage space, open closet area, the towels are to small, the soaps and shampoos are bad for my hair and skin, desk has no light and the armchair by the window is not cozy at all. Not to mention the incredibly bad choice of wall decorations and color scheme. Who designs these bohemoths, and are there any hotels that are livable? I mean there must be a ton of people out there who spend as much time in hotels as they do at home. How do they survive. I just feel lonely and on the brink of insanity having to come back to this place every evening.

Which hotel are you staying at? I'm sure most hotels in Vegas were designed knowing that most people who stay in them (usually tourists) don't actually stay in their rooms very long except to sleep. And you should always bring your own soap and shampoo!

Good luck!

Vincent, I hear your frustration but I think Vegas hotels are not that representative of what's out there. A lot of hotels are geared toward business travellers nowadays. Some recent examples from my experience: the W hotel chain is great. They have Aveda products, usuable desks and good lighting. I also think that international proerties are geared toward business travellers more. I was in India recently and my hotel had a laptop in the room for my use!

Hang in there. You might try asking the hotel if the have rooms that are meant to be more residential. Some hotels do.
