Times Online published an interesting conversation with Nicky Haslam, British Designer great.
Interesting and amusing read - the man is both good at what he does and a quite a character as well.
I ask if he comes here to relax. He cuts me a withering stare. “How disgusting,” he drawls. “I’ve always thought relaxing was very common. What does it even mean?”
Mostly, he overcomes client tantrums by compromising. A woman who lived by the Albert Hall had some “hideous, naff” Venetian-style masks that she wanted displayed, much to Haslam’s dismay. So he broke them up and stuffed them into a giant Perspex box to give them the look of art. She was so delighted, she ordered another one.
