Hello to everybody,

I'm a French architect locking for a job in the States. I have already tried to find some architecture employers but my problem is that each time I try to find a position by the Internet, I have 99% of offers relating to 'software architects'!...

My question is: How do you call an Architect (Designer, Constructor..) in USA??? How to difference an Architect from a software or manager engineer? Where to find a list of American Architecture Employers?

Thank you very much to help me in this matter!

Alexandre M.

We are now accepting applications for an entry/intermediate level position at Frederick Clifford Gibson Architect & Associates. A successful applicant must be a good problem solver, experienced at Autocad, enthusiastic about creating great architecture, and willing to learn and understand the reality of putting a good building together in a small firm environment. This firm currently uses Autodesk's Architectural Desktop integrated with 3dstudio Viz for design and production work.

Please include answers to the following questions in your response to this announcement :

1. Why are you interested in working for my firm in particular? 2. What is your objective in architecture, both long and short term? 3. If you are not an American Citizen, are there any visa issues that need to be dealt with?

Emailed hyperlinks of web-portfolios will be given preference. Otherwise, please email your resume (or web-site hyperlink) to:

examples will also be accepted.

You've run into the same problem that I have. In the US architects are called 'architects'. Unfortunately the web is biased toward electronic engineers and computer engineers who don't really know what the proper name of their own endeavor. The result is that any search on 'architect' is polluted by extraneous and impertinent information about computer 'architecture'.

The US professional organization is the American Institute of Architects. They probably have a web site and a job referal service. That would be your best shot.

Phillip,

The above URL is an alphabetical listing of many US architects. Most of them even have a place to submit your resume online or give their street addresses. Most search engines have such a list. The internet can provide you with thousands of architectural firms all over the world as a database for your search.

Good luck,
