Hi, I’m Trudi from The Deco Detective. It’s a pleasure to be here at My Internal Design - thanks Sue for inviting me to do this guest post!

I always try to shop eco friendly, and I think the best way of doing this is to look for stuff in second-hand shops. For this post, I’ve done a bit of browsing and found three great homes that look different, but still have one thing in common: The owners have decorated with second-hand/vintage/flea market finds.

The wooden tub has become a coffee table - and as you can see, it’s not always necessary to paint the furniture to make it look great!

A fresher, slightly more modern look. This family home feels like a summer house - especially the hallway!

I think this retro home is super cool - this is the kind of furniture I grew up with, and I love seeing it in a new context!

I get really inspired by seeing homes like these, so the next time I need something for my home, I’m not running to IKEA first thing!

    Hi Trudi
First of all - Thank you for this great post. I love using old furniture. The mud room from country living is fantastic. I love that blue bench. The kitchen from the country living link is wonderful as well, except I would skip having the rocking chair in the middle of my kitchen.
I totally agree with you on the retro home - I love it :-) I could move in in a flash, if they would let me…

Great round up Trudi! A terrific sampling of how vintage/second hand can be used to evoke all different styles! I’m the same way these days—a trip to the thrift store is MUCH more satisfying than one to Ikea!
