I'm an Asian American considering a career in interior design. Are there many Asians in this field? Any stories about racial discrimination? I'm not trying to be negative, but this question just popped into my head...

I am not aware of any discrimination in this field over race.. Over design ability, of course.. I live in Canada, and there is a good mix of races involved in the field, primarily the Designers here are female, but of all races from Asian to African American, Egyptian, everything.. Don't know about other places, but here its all good...

I. M. Pei is of Asian descent and oneof our great living architects (designed a pyramid for the entrance to the Louvre) You certainly could not do wrong to emulate his ascent to greatness. Besides why should one consider their ethnicity when considering a carreer? In m opinion there are many Asian philosophies in architecture from Feng Shui to the Japanese minimalist approach. There are some beautiful home on the North American continent in various degrees of Asian tradition. Even Bill Gates went for Japanese tradition when he had his home designed.
