Do It Yourself Vs. Hiring Professionals
This eternal question was discussed in a post that I happened to see and I decided to discuss the issue a little.
There are many DIY shops, many DIY guides, many items that even I the average woman can especially after I stop staring hysterically at the box of the new purchase.
Men are usually better in this kind of works but I agree with anyone that says you need to know your strengths and weaknesses. If you are not very good with electricity, or if the work it too complex, or if your pipes are really old and there are special works to be done and especially if you have a very big project and very little time, it might be recommended to bring in a specialist.
There are times that I prefer to work some extra hours at something I’m good at and bring help even for small projects if they are too complex for me. Even with the option of family help there is a problem sometimes to wait for a time they are free and willing to help.
Personally I have a father who is an electrician but I can’t depend on him at all times. Sure it is cheaper to do it yourself and in the case of many women to let the husband, father, brother, friend do it for you, but their energy is important too.
If it is something that one weekend is enough for and they don’t mind sure get the help, you might learn few things for the next time, but really isn’t it better to pay someone to do the work if the project needs expertise or is too time consuming.
The sooner you’ll return to your routine the better your life would be, unless of course it is a hobby or you don’t have to live in the house and can do the remodeling without the pressure of sleeping in the living room or washing dishes in the bathroom sink.
If it is a question of life quality then do the pros and cons and decide after viewing the whole picture.
