We just purchased an old (1960's ranch style house) in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. We would like to begin to move it closer to the feel of a Frank Lloyd Wright (or prarie) style.

We are on a tight budget and would like to find someone who would work with us to devise a 'plan' the we could implement in stages, as time and money allows. The first part of the work has to be dome quickly (Fall, 2002) but most of it is interior design planning, with perhaps just some 'touches' made to the outside of the house and land to convey the 'Feel' of the period.

I have tried to find someone who can do this kind (and who understand and likes the type of style I'm going for) who will work on the East Coast, near the Poconos, but haven't had much luck on my own. I am not sure if I need a designer (not planning to buy furniture or accessories) but I DO need someone to help figure out what materials to use, and where. Perhaps I also need an architect? I do not intend to move walls or do anything major like that, except to renovate the kitchen, put down a new floor, and perhaps re-do the fireplace (and I assume I will need a general contractor for the big jobs like floors and the kitchen).

This is my first house and I'm a bit overwhelmed. CAn anyone set me straight on where to look and what kind of services I might really need?

I would suggest that you certainly need a designer (or 'design-for-build' contractor), but judging from the nature of the work you described, you probably don't need an architect. Probably a cost saving there, as an architect will almost certainly cost you more than a designer!

I'm afraid I'm a little out of your catchment area (I live in Wrwickshire, England), or I would volenteer my services (I am a practising interior designer, with a number of years' experience, and a love of FLW's work and ethic (who isn't ?!) - sorry if that's only moderately helpful!

Good luck

Jos.

Hello..

have you tried looking at www.aia.org (for architects) and www.asid.org for (interior designers). These two websites have a listing of architects and interior designers. I think they even have a list according to location. Good luck!

Hi. I'm a kitchen designer from NYC... I work with a high-end German company, 'bulthaup.' Check out their website (www.bulthaup.com) and if their style seems to interest you, drop me a note and I'd be glad to help you out, at least with the kitchen end of your remodel.
